It's Finally Out!

It's Finally Done!

About eight months ago, I opened a brand new file in brand new Godot 4.0 and titled it "Dungen." This would be my first 3D gamedev project ever, as well as my first time trying Godot, following a long history of FPS map-making, personal 2D games, and too many other unfinished projects to count. "Dungen" would be nothing more than a simple castle map and first person controller, but I was so thrilled by the "game" I had made that I presented it to everyone I knew. It wasn't actually that exciting. Somebody mentioned that there should be some combat for it to really be a true dungeon.

Some time later, "Dungen" had become Withered: The Lost Dungeon.

The joy of creating this game drove me to add feature after feature until a simple walking simulator had ballooned into the game it is today. I learned a lot of lessons in this process, and the most important is probably that this is not a wise way to make a game. However, it was a lot of fun, and maybe if I had slowed down, Withered wouldn't exist in the first place. I hope it's as fun to play as it was to make.

Although it's out now, I'm probably not finished with Withered. It still has bugs I'd like to get to, and in fact, I had to release it in a debug state because there's a mysterious title-screen crash in release that makes it unplayable otherwise. Oops. In the future I would also be happy to add some extra content, more dungeons, some upgrades I didn't get around to. Maybe even Withered 2 down the line, although I definitely plan to make some other, less dungeon-ey stuff first. Follow one or two of my pages if you want to keep up, you can expect me to make more stuff soon!

Hope you enjoy,
-Max
